Think Board! Week 6 - 2015

This is my think board. We had to show the strategy that we used, come up with a word problem, 10 other similar questions and show a diagram. We also had to figure out the answer. Which is, 51 r 1. I didn't work on my own, I worked with my friend, Nikki!

What is Echolocation?

Brainstorm:
Echo
Sound
Sound waves
Objects
--------------
Writing:

Echolocation what is it?  Echolocation means the location of objects by reflected sound, in particular that used by animals such as Dolphins, Whales and Bats. This means that some animals can move around the place and find things underwater or in the dark by using sound.

Sound is really important to whales and dolphins. Whales use echolocation for navigating and communicating. Dolphins use echolocation by using clicking noises. When the noise hits an object a echo sound comes back and the dolphin will know where they're going.

Bats use echolocation by using sound waves from their mouth or nose. When it hits an object it bounces right back to the bat and it is an echo sound. The bat will know the shape of the object and can identify what it looks like. Most bats use echolocation to navigate in the dark and to find food.

Ben Underwood is a boy that had eye cancer at the age of 2 and had his eyes removed at the age of 3. He is blind but he moves around freely and doesn’t hit anything wherever he goes. It is because he uses echolocation. He moves around by making clicking noises with his tongue. Ben doesn’t use a guide dog or even a cane. The noises bounce off an object and it comes right back to him. That is how he moves around the house. He can even play basketball, ride his bike and ride rollerskates. That is amazing!

Malaysia In The Commonwealth Games.

Malaysia is one of 71 countries that are in the Commonwealth games. Malaysia is in Europe next to Africa. Malaysia joined the commonwealth games in 1957 and haven’t missed any commonwealth games. In the capital city, (Kuala Lumpur) there are 28.8 million people but in Malaysia there are 4.427 billion people. In 2012 there were only 29.24 million, and now there is alot. What a change.

In Malaysia, people talk english but some people talk their country language. Some malaysian people can speak Thai really well. They can speak Malay and Chinese as well.

In the commonwealth games the famous sport for Malaysia is badminton, swimming and shooting. Through out the years Malaysia has won 47 gold medals, 57 silvers medals and 67 bronze medals. In total they have won 171 medals.

The Malaysian flag has lots of colours on it. It looks like this. Screenshot 2014-07-28 at 10.03.33.png
There is red and white stripes on
the flag. In the top left corner
there is a blue rectangle shape
with a sun on the right and crescent shape on the left.

Malaysia has attended 12 games throughout the years commonwealth games have been played. The most gold medals that malaysia have won are 12 and that was in 2010. In 1998 malaysia won 10 gold medals and that was the second most they have won.

World War I - WWI.

Today was the day that New Zealand people died for our country. Today we had assembly to show respect to the people who fought in World War I. When you respect World War I you raise the New Zealand flag half mast. When you raise the flag it has to be just under the top of the pole. It shows that we are remembering the people that represented our country in World War I.

At assembly Mr Burt (Our Principal) said his grandad and Mrs Flavelles grandad were in World War 1. Mr Burt said that his grandad was getting married and said that the clothes that he wore back from the war were the clothes that he got married in. Yes, he did make it back alive, same as Mrs Flavelles grandad.

World War I took place in Europe, but involved lots of countries. Over 20 countries were in World War I. 28 July 1914 was when World War I started, and it lasted till 11 November 1918.

When the first bomb went off the War began. Grass was turning into mud. Bombs and bullets were being fired. People had to walk on duckboard wood planks in Gallipoli to stay out of the mud because there was so much.

I am so thankful for the people that fought for New Zealand in World War I. They sacrificed their lives for us new zealanders, and that is a huge thing to do.
